Kate "Nebraska" Borders
Kate "Nebraska" Borders joined the Ship of Fools at the end of the 2011 Fall Semester.
Her nickname, Nebraska, was bestowed by Taylor "The Turtle" Daine because he thought it was hilarious that Kate carried the Nebraska flag in the Big Ten Flags section of the Purdue "All-American" Marching Band. Also, Nebraska allows for jokes with her last name (See: "Loves Puns")
Kate's first show was the 2012 Spring Call-Out Show, January 27, in BRNG 2280.
- Communications Officer: Fall 2012 - Current
With the last name "Borders," Steven "Angel Hair" Saltsman was rather fond of coming up with nicknames for Kate that would allow for puns. Such as:
- Kate "Doctors-Without" Borders
- Kate "Barnes-and-Noble-replaced" Borders
- Kate "Good-luck-crossing-the" Borders
And so on. This, coupled with Kate's disdain towards games like 185 and Last Action Hero, lead to the troupe yelling, "Kate Loves Puns!" with each game or random pun inserted into normal conversations. It also has lead to a hashtag on Twitter, and has spread to other troupes.
Improv Strengths and Weaknesses
- Favorite Games: I Love You, Dead Pirates, Dating Game, 3 Things, Spoon River
- Strengths: Guessing Games, Schmultz, Chicken Facts.
- Weaknesses: Rapping, rhyming, laughing and smiling on stage.
Kate is from Battle Creek, Michigan. She is studying Animal Science with a concentration in Biosciences, and hopes to go on and receive her Masters Degree in Poultry Science. She will essentially become the crazy bird lady, the arch nemesis to Becky "Cha-Cha" Krause, the old cat woman. When not doing improv, Kate is in Purdue's "All-American" Marching Band, and, in October, can be seen on stage performing "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." It's rumored that she has a crush on a robot from Ad Liberation, but no credence can be given.
